Technology is always evolving – and with it, is the threat of a digital breach. We know it’s our duty to stay ahead of security threats. That’s why we’ve released 2-Factor Authentication for eMoney advisors.

What is 2-Factor Authentication?

2-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an additional layer of security to your account log-in process. Strengthening the security of your account by requiring two methods of verifying your identity and protecting you from phishing, social engineering and exploited credentials.

Why is 2FA Important?

Technology vendors cannot ignore how digital threats evolve. 2FA makes your security not only dependent on something you know – like your password, PIN, and security questions – but on something you have, like your mobile phone.

Here’s how it works:

The first time you log in, you’ll be prompted to enroll in 2FA.  If you choose to skip enrolling in 2FA at this time, you can always enable it in your Global Settings at another time.

Enter your mobile phone number to enroll in 2-Factor Authentication.

You will also have the option to set up a secondary Recovery Phone Number to receive a text message or voice call-back. This is a back-up number that can be used when you do not have access to your primary phone.

Set up a Recovery Phone for emergencies.

The temporary code is delivered primarily via text message, but if users do not have access to their primary phone or are having trouble receiving texts, they can choose the More Options link on the Sign In page.

Choose more options if you are not able to receive a text message on your Primary Phone number.

This will allow you to select a Call Me option to receive a voice call-back, or you can contact Customer Service at 888-362-8482 for one-time access.

Select your Primary or Recovery Phone and whether to receive a voice call-back or text message.

What else is affected by enabling 2FA?

No core functionality in eMoney is affected by enabling 2-Factor Authentication, however it is important to note that 2-Factor Authentication will take the place of the existing registered devices and  PIN Verification method.

Will 2FA always be optional?

For now, 2FA is optional for Advisors and Support users. Because we value the security of your and your clients’ data above all else, 2FA will soon be released to your clients, and will eventually become a mandatory security provision for advisors and clients over the next few months. Stay tuned for more information!
