On June 25, we’re standardizing the definition of investments to create a consistent experience between the Client Overview and Client Portal, which includes updates to the values displayed by the Investments tiles.

The new definition of investments that will be applied across both sites includes the following account types:

  • Taxable
  • Qualified Retirement
  • Roth IRA
  • HSA
  • 529
  • Annuities
  • Deferred Compensation
  • Cash (New to Client Portal Investments Tile and pages)
  • Stock Options (New to Client Portal Investments Tile and pages)
  • Life Insurance Cash Values (New to Client Portal Investments Tile and pages)

In addition, to provide a more holistic view, both in- and out-of-estate assets will be included in investments.

While the total value of the Client Portal Investments tile already includes out-of-estate assets, this change will impact the total value within the Client Overview Investments tile within the advisor site and the shared background chart underlying both sites Investments tiles.

How will this impact my clients?

Clients with cash accounts, stock options, and life insurance with cash value accounts will see an increase as these accounts are included in their Investments tile.

Additionally, the Investments in the Accounts tile will be broken out into Taxable andTax Advantaged accounts and Life Insurance will be updated to Life Ins Cash Values. These changes will clarify these account types on the Client Homepage.

Note: If intra-day pricing is turned-on, there may be a difference between the Advisor and Client Site investment sections because intra-day pricing modifies the values being reported.

Finally, the addition of out-of-estate assets will primarily impact the Advisor Investments tile and the shared background chart for both advisor and client sites.

How can I communicate this change to my clients?

We’ve created a client-facing email template that includes a guide detailing the upcoming change to help you communicate this update to your clients.
