Understanding the difference between advisor-managed connections and client connections is an important step in preserving the security of your clients’ data. The key to understanding this difference is recognizing what information is available through each type of connection.

Advisor-Managed Connections

With advisor-managed connections, you are able to access your entire book of business at a given institution through one aggregation or connection source, so you can manage every account with that particular institution or source.

These connections are established one of three ways.

  1. The first is by Direct Feed, where the financial institution sends you a secure data file and we then upload your clients’ account information into their fact finder.
  2. The second is by a web service, like one of our integration partners. Here, the data is gathered through that partner and then relayed to eMoney.
  3. The third and final method is by Direct Download. Data is exported via a CSV file and then refreshed with newly updated data.

Client Connections

On the other hand, client connections link to only one client’s accounts, using their personal username and password. Typically, these connections relate to a client’s assets not currently under management or to personal assets and liabilities like credit cards or home loans.

Because these connections require personal verification and information, we suggest that your clients establish them through their client site.

That way, any changes to their username, password, security token or questions can be made without requiring them to disclose this information to you or require an office visit for them to update their credentials.
