They’re calling it “Mobilegeddon.”  Google’s recently-introduced changes to their mobile search algorithms have caused some waves in the web development sphere. According to Google, their changes have made it easier for mobile users to find websites that are optimized for their devices. In other words, Google is trying to make it easier for you to find a mobile-optimized website when you conduct a search on your phone or tablet.

This is great news for consumers. A majority of online traffic now occurs on mobile devices, and this change will give people access to easier-to-view content. But in order to make sure your business isn’t negatively affected, you’ll need to take some steps to make sure your website is optimized for mobile viewing. Here’s what you should do to make sure your website gets attention from Google’s new process:

Check out Google’s “Mobile-Friendly Test.”

In a move to help website owners prepare for the changes to their search algorithms, Google has set up an online test you can use to determine whether your site has a mobile-friendly design or not. Plug your website’s URL into the text box, hit “analyze,” and you’ll receive instant feedback.

Weigh your options.

If your website comes back with Google’s stamp of approval, great! If not, you should start looking into ways you can make your site mobile-friendly. Google set up a helpful site that outlines the process, and it should be your first stop before you make any decisions. Your web hosting service should have some options available to you as far as mobile optimization goes, but check out other services like bMobilized.

While you’re at it, beef up your web presence.

Don’t stop at just optimizing your website for mobile. You should also make sure that your website is optimized for search engines in other ways. Google has another great guide to help you get started with this, too.
